Nigeria bloggers union
In a bid to bring sanity into blogging in Nigeria, a group of professionals in the business have floated the Nigeria Bloggers Union.

According to a statement issued the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the group, Ayobami Ladipo, Publisher of Porsche Classy, the need to help build and coordinate the activities of bloggers across the nation also necessitated the formation of the Union.

According to him, events of the past months have shown clearly that there is the need to have an association to coordinate the practise of blogging and to fully re-positioning blogging as a serious minded profession in Nigeria for effective and certified dissemination of information.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the newly established body, the Interim National President of NBU, Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) emphasized the need to build an association readily poised for the emerging world in the area of information dissemination and management.

In his words, “NBU will not only raise the standard of blogging in Nigeria but it will also work with relevant individuals and corporate organizations towards raising the standard of the profession in the country through consistent training and advocacy.”

Membership has been left opened to all Nigerian bloggers living within and outside the shores of Nigeria who have been blogging consistently for at least one full calendar year.

CKN further said the creation of NBU is long overdue due because bloggers in Nigeria currently constitute over 70% of sources of information on the super highway (internet).

To show the associations level of seriously, a code of ethics committee will be put in place within the next few days to deal with all issues relating to ethical behaviours, he said.

The committee will be saddled with the responsibility of dealing with all forms of complaints raised (or that will arise) from aggrieved individuals and corporate institutions against any member as it relates to ethical behaviour, CKN added.

The association, according to him, is on the threshold of getting all the relevant government documentations. He called for the cooperation and understanding of all relevant agencies as we move towards sanitising and regulating the practise of blogging in Nigeria

The aims and objectives of the association are:

• To streamline the practice of blogging in Nigeria
• To bring some professionalism into the profession of blogging in Nigeria
• To act as a forum for interaction and exchange of ideas for practitioners of Blogging in Nigeria
• To act as an avenue for social and professional interaction among members
• To act as a forum to discuss National and issues of common interest among bloggers
• To act as a cohesive voice on issues of interest among members
• To protect the rights and privileges of members
• To set out ethical standard for the practice of the profession.

The following Interim Executive members of the association were appointed to run the affairs of the association:

Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) as the Interim National President

Mrs Nelly Agwu as the Interim National Treasurer
Ayobami Ladipo (Porsche Classy) as the Interim National Publicity Secretary
