Terrorist’s Escape: Police Overturns Zakari Biu’s Sack

The dismissal of former Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu, from the Force has now been reversed, a statement on Friday by the Police Service Commission, PSC, has disclosed.

According to the spokesman of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, the former top cop was found not guilty of his alleged complicity in the escape of a Boko Haram suspect, Kabiru Sokoto, from police detention. Biu was reinstated to his position and then retired statutorily.

The Commission said in that statement that it “reviewed the CP Zakari Biu’s appeal against his dismissal, exonerating him and retiring him statutorily.”

Sokoto was the terrorist accused of being behind the 2010 St Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla where 44 worshippers died and many others injured.

It was also revealed in the statement that two Commissioners of Police, Danladi Adi Yirama Mshielbwala and Ibrahim Idris have been promoted to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).

“The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of two commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police,” the statement said.

According to the PSC, “these decisions were the high points of the 13th plenary meeting of the commission held in Abuja,” which was presided over by its chairman, Dr Mike Mbama Okiro, a former Inspector General of Police.
