Lagos Lawmaker, Saka Fafunmi, Trains 1000 Residents

A vocational training programme set up by a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Saka Fafunmi representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1, has graduated over 1000 students.

The graduands went through vocational training in various skills under his sponsorship and the best graduating students were rewarded.

At an event held recently at the African Church Primary School, College Road, Lagos, Fafunmi disclosed that the essence of representing his people was to impact on their lives in one way or the other.

In his words, “I have set a precedent as your representative in Ifako/Ijaiye, ‎and nobody can take the benefits away. I don’t want to lose any of you. I will continue to impact on your lives, especially the youths, as long as I remain your representative.”

One of the graduands, Ajayi Kehinde, who graduated from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State before enrolling for free a fashion designing training‎ under the programme, said she would explore the world of fashion designing and be the best designer in the world.

“I decided to take opportunity of the training because my tailors were not giving me what I wanted. I want to advise unemployed graduates not to waste their time, but to learn something and bring out the talents in them.

“They should stop looking for jobs and create jobs,” she said, adding that Fafunmi is doing what the people want.

Also, one Abiola Danjuma, who finished from the fashion school, said that she has started sewing for people on commercial basis before graduating from the school.

Abiola, who happens to be a politician in the area, revealed that Fafunmi thought she was joking when she told him she was interested in the vocation, and thanked God and the lawmaker for the opportunity.

In his testimony, Idris Mehmood, said that he joined Fafunmi’s free fashion training programme seven months ago having graduated from a secondary school and that he hopes to learn more about the skill and further his education in the nearest future.

He advised the youths in the country to acquire skills, while calling on the government to provide skills acquisition opportunities for the teeming youths in the country.
