A former player of the Super Eagles, Taye Taiwo, has claimed coaches collect bribes from players to include them in the team.

Taiwo, who has been snubbed recently by the head coach, Stephen Keshi, however, told Football Africa 365 that as a person, he never saw the need to ‘pay’ to serve his fatherland.

In his words, the former AC Milan defender, now 30, said, “Unlike others, I didn’t offer gifts to the Nigeria coach to be selected. Unfortunately, it’s still happening. I’m not going to be like some who owe their selection of gifts to the coach.”

He explained that some players in the national team do this because of their desperation to wear the country’s jerseys on the field of play.

Speaking on his decision to leave his Turkish club to return to France, the former QPR footballer said, “The French league is my favorite; it’s my adopted country and my city, Marseille. I would love to return, I spent my best moments, my family, my friends are there.”

The former Olympique Marseille left-wing-back further said, “I remain a strong supporter of OM. If Jean-Claude Dassier had been able to manage a football club, I would still be in Marseille.”

Taye Taiwo gained prominence during the 2005 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Netherlands. He also played in Ukraine with Dynamo Kiev. The defender recently terminated his contract with Bursaspor of Turkey over unpaid wages.
