A peaceful demonstration was staged on Tuesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, by members of the state House of Assembly.

The lawmakers were protesting the non-payment of their salaries for two months by the state government.

The angry congressmen rose from a plenary and marched straight to the office of the Accountant-General of Imo State, Mrs S Udogu, to register their complaints. They also sought to know why their allowances and salaries have not been paid for two months.

However, Mrs Udogu was not around when the legislators stormed her office. This did not go down well with lawmakers, who then headed to the office of the Commissioner for Finance.

They later resumed for legislative duties after the protest.

It was learnt by Aproko247 that civil servants in the state have not yet received their salaries for Februar and March 2015.
