Security Personnel Withdrawn From Ekiti Speaker, Deputy

Following the removal of Adewale Omirin as Speaker of Ekiti House of Assembly by few members of the Assembly on Thursday, the Police and ‎Department of State Security have withdrawn their personnel from the security teams of the embattled Speaker.

Seven members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, out of the 26 members of the Assembly, had removed the Speaker and his deputy, Adetunji Orisalade. They were accused of leaving their official duties.

The other 19 members, who are from the All Progressives Congress, APC, were in Lagos as at the time the ‘impeachment’ was carried out in Ekiti State.

Consequently, a new Speaker was elected by the seven PDP members. Dele Olugbemi was announced the new Speaker and has since swung into action.

On Thursday evening, some members of the PDP, led by the new Speaker, invaded the Speaker’s Lodge to take charge of the place.

Ekiti has been boiling since the emergence of Ayo Fayose of the PDP as governor.
