Don’t Disturb Government Activities—IG Warns Politicians

Following the blockage of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja on Wednesday by some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has warned political leaders to ensure they do not cause the disruption of government activities in any part of the country.

Abba, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by Police spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, advised politicians to “take their campaigns to the electorate.”

The police chief also urged politicians and their “followers who have grievances to seek redress in the court of law, rather than disturb the peace of innocent, law abiding citizens.”

On Wednesday, the National Chairman of APC, John Oyegun led some people to the Police headquarters in Abuja and barricaded the entrance of the security agency. Also among the protesters was the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.

They demanded for a neutral Nigeria Police and urged them not to be used by President Goodluck Jonathan as his tool.

The IG, who described the incident as “provocative and uncivilised” in the statement, noted that it “ended without any confrontation as the Police exhibited maximum restraint in the face of ceaseless provocation by these leaders and their motley crowd.”
