On October 25, 2005, a Supreme Court judgement sacked Celestine Omehia as Governor of Rivers State and installed Rotimi Amaechi as the duly elected Governor of the State. Ironically, both Omehia and Amaechi are cousins and then members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

Seven years down the line, the state government has disclosed that it would mark the anniversary of the historic verdict.

To this effect, a committee has been set up by the Rivers State government to make the anniversary a reality and success.

Members of the organising committee include the state Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, who will serve as Chairman of the Central Committee; while the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chuma Chinye, will serve as the Secretary.
