Lagos Police Arrests Sgt Otene Over Death Of Oyoma

Following reactions that trailed the death of one Oyoma Edewor, who was allegedly killed by a police sergeant attached to Festac Command, Otene Godwin, the police authorities in Lagos State have confirmed the arrest of the officer involved in the matter.

In a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, it was disclosed that Otene, with Force number 355272, is now being held in its custody.

The cop was accused in the press release of abandoning his duty post. “Sgt Otene abandoned his duty post as the Station Guard at Area ‘E’ [Festac] Command and left for Alakija area where the unfortunate incident occurred,” a part of the statement said.

“The sergeant is already in police custody and circumstances surrounding the shooting incident is being investigated,” the police assured, quoting the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Umar A Manko, appealing to “members of the public to remain calm and maintain peace as justice will definitely be done.” The police boss assured “the deceased family that investigation will be concluded in good time.”

The stated explained that “the incident occurred on May 10th, 2014 about 2300hrs along Alakija area of Festac Town. Sgt.” Ngozi further said “the Nigeria Police is a disciplined organisation and will never tolerate any act of indiscipline from its members.”
