Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday axed two Commissioners and board Chairmen in the state. The affected Commissioners were Bassey Albert Akpan (Finance) and Effiong Abia (Rural Development).
The two men were shown the way out “in view of the need to reinvigorate the machinery of government and drive further the Uncommon Transformation Programme of the state,” a press statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aniekan Umanah, explained.
Akpan and Abia were also ordered to immediately hand over to their permanent secretaries in the ministries.
The Board Chairman of the state Property and Investment Company Limited, APICO, Obong Sunny Udom; Hon Patrick Ifon, Chairman, Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited; Obong Dan Akai, Chairman, Akwa Ibom Newspapers Corporation, AKNC; Hon Alex Nyong, Chairman, Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, AKBC; Hon John Asikpo, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Management Board; and Abom Tony Esu, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development were also sacked.
