Jonathan Visits Abuja Blast Scene

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday cancelled his earlier scheduled visit to Ibadan, Oyo State, to visit the scene of Monday’s bomb explosion in an Abuja bus station. The incident killed over 50 persons and got several others injured.

The President assured Nigerians that the, “government is doing everything possible to make sure that we move our country forward, in spite of all the distractions that want to take us backward. We promise that we will get over it (terroris). The security services will continue to work very hard. God willing, we will get over it.”

Jonathan urged Nigerians to be more conscious and observant of possible security threat around them in order to reduce incidences of terror attacks.

“If there are unusual movement of vehicles and bags, they should call on security [operatives] and with this, a lot of incidences would be contained. So, we believe that if people will become observant and all of us become security conscious by the movement of people, we will be able to reduce some of these incidences,” the President observed.

He also appealed to the “media and our great men and women to come up with enlightenment programme for our people.”

At the Asokoro Hospital, where the victims were rushed to, Jonathan, who was received by the Chief Medical Director, Abubakar Adamu, condoled with the them (victims).

The President was accompanied by Vice President, Namadi Sambo; the Senate President, David Mark; the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro; the National Security Adviser, retired Col Sambo Dasuki; the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Barde; other service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
