Bloodbath In Ilorin As 3 Die During PDP Meeting

At least three people reportedly died in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday when some supporters of the People Democratic Party, PDP, attacked one another during a ward meeting. The party’s supporters had gathered at Sango area of the state capital for a ward meeting, but it later turned bloody over an alleged imposition of ward members of them as executives.

Some of the aggrieved members of the party in the state, who were said to have opposed the alleged imposition, reportedly turned the gathering into a rowdy session.

It was gathered by Aproko247 that trouble started when a policeman allegedly shot in the air in an attempt to control a situation that erupted during the meeting. However, some hoodlums, who grabbed his gun after it fell from the cop, refused to hand it over to him (police officer).

But another policeman at the scene, allegedly shot at one of the hoodlums holding the riffle. This reportedly angered the others (hoodlums) and led to a fracas between the police and the suspected party thugs.

Recall that last week, the PDP in Kwara State started the registration of its members across the 16 local government councils of the state. The exercise was followed on Monday by the conduct of the ward congresses across 193 wards in the state.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Ambrose Aisabor confirmed on Monday that seven people have already been arrested in connection with the incident. He also disclosed that investigation into the matter has commenced.
