31 Lawmakers Will Join APC In January–Akume

The immediate past governor of Benue State, George Akume, has revealed that 31 more members of the House of Representatives will join the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in January 2014.

Some days ago, 37 lawmakers in the lower chamber of the National Assembly decamped to the APC, which pegged the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, as minority in the House from the majority position it occupied before then.

Speaking after a mass held in Makurdi to celebrate his 60th birthday, Akume, who is now the Minority Leader in the red chamber, disclosed that 31 more legislators will join the APC in the coming days ahead.

Akume also stated that the defecting members of the House will not lose their seats in the Assembly just because they dumped their former party, as it is being speculated. He laughed off the threats by the PDP to strip of Senators who left the ruling party to the APC. According to him, the constitution is clear on the matter
